Biotechnology from A to Z

Links to some sources of gossip and job information

Gossip:

The Biotech Rumour Mill. Wildly inaccurate, often verging on libellous, and almost entirely contributed by embittered ex-employees of downsizing biotech companies with enormous grudges, this cane sometimes nevertheless fun to browse.

More reliable is the conference bar: major conference series are BIO (annual, US - this link is to the 2007 event, in Boston), and Biopartnering Europe (annual, London). There are also a wealth of technicalo conferences, of course. I also recommend IBC's Drug Discovery Technology conference series. Good way to find out what is going on in the drug discovery part of biotech. (I am on the SAB, so yes this is a plug). US and European versions.

Research jobs

Most major companies have an 'employment' section of their web site. The following sites might also be useful.

The technical journals Science and Nature and the popular magazine New Scientist all have extensive job sites for scientists of all sorts.

There are a lot of sites that are specifically for science-based job seekers. Among the more stable and bio-focused are SciWeb's career page (all US, West Coast biassed, where SciWeb is based), BioView, Agricultureb2b, and SCI for the UK

Medzilla's jobs survey. How much will your qualifications bring you in the job market?
